People complain to me sometimes about taxes. They say their taxes are too high, and that too much of it goes to government services. Sometimes they say compare taxes to theft, and say they aren't getting enough in return. Those people are dead wrong.
See, those people all live in the same country I do. And I live in a country where taxes are the best investment you can make.
I live in a country that is a stable democracy. That democracy, funded by taxes, keeps us free of despotism, and gives us the means to correct our mistakes. Our taxes are an investment in our self-correction.
I live in a country that is secure. We are protected by the strongest defense force in the world, funded by taxes, that develops the latest technologies and trains the best soldiers. Other militaries set their standards to ours. Our taxes are an investment in our security.
I live in a country that is educated. We provide free primary and secondary education to everyone, fund higher education, and issue standard diplomas that give that education meaning. Our population is more employable, and our workforce more effective because of that education. Our taxes are an investment in our education.
I live in a country that funds development. American research, largely supported by taxes, jumpstarts the new technologies that keeps American industry on the forefront. Our taxes are an investment in our future.
I live in a country that provides the poor with the food and shelter they need. We fund, with our taxes, the programs that give all of us the tools to overcome adversity and follow through on our potential.
Our taxes are an investment in the potential and future of every single American. And that is the best investment in the world.
