From a constitutional perspective, the “right of people to keep and bear arms” can’t be abridged. Regulations on gun use should be regulations on use rather than on possession, and should be implemented at the county and local levels, not at the federal level.
From a practical perspective, we can’t pretend that guns don’t exist. The best way to be protected, especially in rural areas where law inforcement is scarce, is to own a gun and know how to use it. The best way to prevent accidental shootings would be to implement public gun safety programs. |
